S: In the Nineteenth Century While there is much in the controversy that we would gladly have left out, yet we felt that the truth should be told, so that later generations might understand its significance. A controversy is not always pleasant reading, but God overrules it for his glory. Any corrections the author will be glad to place in the second edition, as also any reply to criticisms made on the book. He desires to express his indebtedness and gratefulness to the many friends who have given him information and whom he fears he has often wearied with inquiries in order to find out the facts.
